A fire broke out in the early hours of September 10, engulfing four terraced houses on Park Road in Dukinfield, Tameside. Marek Bonawenturski, 52, is believed to have escaped the flames by jumping from his first-floor bedroom window, but he was found in critical condition and later died in hospital. Emergency services deployed five fire engines, specialist units, police and paramedics to the scene.

Local residents reported hearing shouts and seeing smoke from their windows as the blaze raged.
