Man drives onto White House sidewalk demanding audience with Trump, is arrested
A driver steered his vehicle onto a sidewalk near Lafayette Square and shouted that he wanted to speak with Donald Trump, prompting a swift Secret Service response and his detention.
At approximately 12:15 p.m. Saturday, a driver in a silver Toyota Highlander drove onto the sidewalk at the intersection of 16th and H Streets NW, directly beside Lafayette Square, and shouted that he wanted to speak with Donald Trump. Secret Service officers, aided by Metropolitan Police, moved in, placed the man in handcuffs and conducted a thorough sweep of the vehicle, which yielded no dangerous substances. The individual was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for a mental-health assessment.
Local streets were temporarily shut down as a precaution, and the surrounding area was cordoned off while officials secured the zone. The driver’s name and the reasons behind his demand remain undisclosed. The incident follows a series of recent security scares near the White House, including a shooting in May and a van breach in March. No criminal charges have been announced at this time.
