Man extradited from Poland faces murder charge in NSW cabinet body case
Police have flown a 26-year-old man from Poland to Sydney and charged him with murder after a body was found in a metal cabinet in a creek on the NSW Mid-North Coast.
Homicide investigators travelled to Poland on September 18, arrested a 26-year-old man and brought him back to Sydney, where he was formally charged with murder on Saturday. The charge relates to the 2023 discovery of Darcy Schafer-Turner's body inside a metal cabinet that had been floating in Warrell Creek on the Mid-North Coast. Earlier convictions include Zachary Richard Fraser, who received a six-and-a-half-year sentence after admitting manslaughter, and another accomplice who has fled overseas.
CCTV footage from a Bunnings store showed Charles Dennis Turnbull purchasing cable ties and a large metal cabinet, after which he travelled to Port Macquarie, bought a boat and helped dump the body. Turnbull was paid $20,000 for cleaning the scene and disposing of the remains. The newly extradited suspect will appear in court the following day.
