Man extradited from Portugal faces murder charge in Manchester teen stabbing
Nico de Carvalho Wilson was returned from Portugal and charged with murder in the 2020 stabbing death of 16-year-old John Soyoye in Manchester.
Nico de Carvalho Wilson, 24, was extradited from Portugal to the UK after being detained there in March. He has been charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder in connection with the stabbing of 16-year-old John Soyoye in Manchester’s Moston district on 5 November 2020. Greater Manchester Police say Wilson was part of the group responsible for the attack.
Wilson appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday. The prosecution comes after four organised-crime group members were jailed in August and eight others received sentences in 2022 for their roles in the same killing. John Soyoye’s family described him as energetic, intelligent and caring in a tribute released after his death.
Why it matters
The extradition and new charges revive a high-profile murder case that has haunted Manchester for years.
