Man fatally shot inside vehicle during early-morning incident in Baillif
A man was killed by gunfire while inside his car in Baillif, Guadeloupe, after the vehicle crashed following the shooting.
Authorities in Guadeloupe have launched a voluntary homicide probe after a 1991-born man, identified as known to law-enforcement services, was shot while inside his car in Baillif around 3 a.m. The gunfire caused him to lose control, and the vehicle collided with multiple parked cars before ending up on its roof. Neighbors reported hearing the gunshots and the subsequent crash, prompting them to summon emergency responders.
The investigation is being conducted by the Pointe-à-Pitre Section of Research together with the Saint-Claude Brigade of Research. Prosecutor Stéphanie Bazart did not confirm reports that the victim had recently left prison in mainland France. The incident adds to a series of recent firearm-related homicides in the region, which prosecutors say reflect a casual attitude toward gun use.
