Man hurls trash-filled baby crib at 90-year-old on Brooklyn sidewalk

A 90-year-old woman was knocked down after a passerby threw a baby crib loaded with garbage at her on Brighton Beach Avenue in Brooklyn.

Police say a 90-year-old woman was assaulted on a busy Brooklyn sidewalk when a man seized a baby crib left next to a trash bin and threw it at her at about 9:45 a.m. on Monday. The victim fell onto her side as the crib burst open, scattering refuse, and the perpetrator ran away. Several pedestrians passed by, with two stopping to help the elderly woman, who was subsequently transported to Coney Island Hospital and listed as stable.

The NYPD has issued a still image of the suspect, who was wearing a blue hoodie, and is asking the public for information. No arrests have been made so far. The department also noted a rise in assaults against seniors, citing a 14 % increase over the previous year and a larger jump since 2018, along with a sharp rise in repeat offenders targeting older adults.

Why it matters

The attack highlights growing violence against seniors and prompts community vigilance and police appeals for help.
