Man in his 20s charged with murder after teen's death in remote NT community

Police have charged a 26-year-old man with murder following the death of a 16-year-old girl in Alpurrurulam, Northern Territory.

At around 5.30 am on Monday, the clinic in the remote Alpurrurulam community notified authorities that a 16-year-old girl had died following an alleged physical assault. Northern Territory Police responded, arrested a 26-year-old man thought to be in a domestic relationship with the girl, and took him to Darwin where he was charged with one count of murder. He was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court later that day.

The incident has prompted local MP Chansey Paech to urge the Territory government to provide more support and resources to remote communities near the Queensland border. He expressed sympathy for the family and emphasized that remote areas deserve equal attention and services. The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety and service provision in isolated Indigenous communities.
