Man in his forties found shot dead in Nîmes, police probe gang-linked retaliation

A man with a prior drug-trafficking record was discovered riddled with bullets in his car in a Nîmes suburb, prompting an organized-crime murder investigation.

In a popular eastern district of Nîmes, a man in his forties was discovered dead inside his car, his body pierced by several bullets. The victim had previously served prison time for drug-related crimes, according to a statement from prosecutor Cécile Gensac, who has launched an investigation into a gang-related homicide. The shooting occurred on the Courbessac road, close to the Mas de Mingue and Chemin bas d'Avignon neighborhoods.

Witnesses reported that the assailants escaped immediately, and a vehicle suspected of being linked to the incident was later recovered burnt in the nearby commune of Saint-Gervasy, roughly ten kilometres from the crime scene. Police are examining the possibility that the killing was part of a settled score. The case remains active as investigators follow leads on the organized-crime angle.
