Man killed in Ludhiana after gunmen open fire on his car, police cite old feud

A 29-year-old man was shot dead on a Ludhiana road when assailants fired at his Hyundai i20, and investigators believe a longstanding rivalry is behind the attack.

On Friday night, Laddi Khan, 29, was killed after gunmen opened fire on his Hyundai i20 as it traveled along the Khanjarwal-Majri road near Ludhiana. His companion, Manpreet Singh, managed to flee without injury. The attackers, believed to be in a Hyundai Verna, riddled the i20 with bullets, wounding Khan in the chest and shoulder before the car lost control and struck a roadside pole.

Police, led by SHO Nirmaljit Singh, have named Harpreet Happy and Arshdeep Singh as two of the suspects, with three others still unidentified. An FIR has been filed and forensic teams collected bullet marks and other evidence. The investigation is examining CCTV footage and the possibility that an old rivalry between the two groups motivated the shooting, though no gangster link has been confirmed yet.

Why it matters

The killing highlights ongoing local gang rivalries and raises concerns about road safety and gun violence in Punjab.
