Man kills elderly parents with dumbbell in Madrid flat, police say
A son was arrested after violently beating his 75-year-old mother and father to death with a dumbbell in a Latina district apartment in Madrid.
Early Monday morning, emergency services were alerted to a possible homicide after a man called for assistance, claiming his attacker would kill him. Police arrived at a residence on Paseo de Husares in Madrid's Latina district and, after the occupant refused to open the door, they broke it down with a battering ram. Inside, they discovered the son of the victims barricaded in a room, clutching a dumbbell covered in blood, with the bodies of his roughly 75-year-old mother and father nearby.
The Policia Nacional used a taser to incapacitate the suspect before arresting him. Officials noted the perpetrator suffered from mental-health issues and exhibited a very high degree of violence. Both victims showed injuries consistent with blunt-object trauma, and the case is now under investigation.
