Man maimed in Chermside dog attack faces lengthy physical and financial recovery

Ajay Malik was severely injured after two dogs attacked him in Chermside, prompting a fundraising campaign to cover his medical and living expenses.

On a Friday evening in Chermside, 37-year-old real-estate agent Ajay Malik was attacked by two dogs while running in 7th Brigade Park and suffered serious injuries that required immediate care at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. His relatives set up a GoFundMe fundraiser, seeking $300,000 to help cover months of living expenses, medical bills and rehabilitation while he is unable to work. Two days later, the body of a 48-year-old man was discovered in the same park area near Kittyhawk Drive, prompting detectives to consider whether the dogs might have been involved before or after his death.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham noted that the post-mortem could not yet rule out any connection. Police and Brisbane City Council officers remain active in the investigation as the community grapples with the dual incidents.
