Man on bond charged with murder after shooting bystander who tried to stop fight

On Tuesday morning in Apopka, Florida, law enforcement responded to an intersection where a fight had broken out after a crash between a white Chevy Silverado and a black Lexus. Bystander Daryl Alexander Hill, 56, attempted to separate the combatants—Raul Lionel Vazquez and Kaidy Honaker—and was shot dead. An arrest affidavit states Hill and Vazquez wrestled in nearby bushes, after which Vazquez retrieved a shotgun from his pickup and fired a single round that struck Hill.

Vazquez, who was shirtless and barefoot, was already out on a $5,000 surety bond for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from a November 2025 incident. He has now been charged with second-degree murder. Hill’s family includes his wife, Suzy Hill, and their 10-year-old daughter, and a GoFundMe has been set up in his memory. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Apopka Police Department are handling the case; the State Attorney’s Office has not commented.
