Man on scooter attempts to steal police speed camera, investigators track him via social media

On a road near La Roda in Castilla-La Mancha, a scooter-riding man charged at a Guardia Civil mobile speed camera in October 2025, trying to lift the equipment without slowing down. The impact caused the radar to drop and break, with repair estimates around €4,000. Wearing a full-face helmet and dark clothing, he evaded the foot chase and vanished into town, but later boasted about the stunt on social networks.
Police from the local Guardia Civil post and its traffic investigation unit used those online statements to identify a 32-year-old resident, now a formal suspect. He has not yet been charged but faces alleged theft and criminal-damage offences, which could carry heavier penalties due to the damage value. The matter has been referred to the investigating court in La Roda, where he may also be ordered to reimburse the repair costs.
