Man pleads not guilty to assaulting his 79-year-old aunt in Kuala Lumpur

In Kuala Lumpur, Kok Jung Tze, 50, appeared before the Sessions Court and pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his 79-year-old aunt at a residence in Damansara Heights on Jan 18. The charge, under Section 325 of the Penal Code, carries up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine, and was read together with Section 326A for offences against family members. Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry asked for RM 20,000 bail, a passport surrender, and a prohibition on contacting prosecution witnesses, citing Kok’s recent return from Australia as a flight-risk factor.

Kok’s counsel, Joshua Tay, highlighted his client’s unemployment, caregiving responsibilities for his father, and cooperation with investigators, urging a reduced bail and rejecting the passport condition. Judge Noor Aini Yusof granted bail of RM 18,000 with one local surety and imposed the witness-harassment restriction, fixing Oct 26 for the next court mention. Lawyer Ooi Hong Ming attended the hearing on behalf of the victim.
