Man Rebuilds Penis After Full Penectomy Using Complex Phalloplasty

Paul Lucas, a 40-year-old from Dudley, underwent a total penectomy for penile cancer and is now recovering from a multi-stage reconstruction that created a new phallus.

In October 2022, Paul Lucas, a local government officer in Dudley, UK, noticed a painful growth and was diagnosed with penile cancer, leading to a total penectomy. Post-surgery, he faced challenges such as rerouted urination and emotional strain, but his wife Nicky supported his recovery. By July 2023 he was declared cancer-free, and after shedding nearly 100 pounds he qualified for a reconstructive program.

Beginning in March 2026, surgeons at University College Hospital performed a radial forearm flap phalloplasty, also using surplus abdominal skin for a “tummy tuck.” Recovery involved careful positioning of the new organ and treatment of minor infections. Sensation is returning as nerves grow, and the couple has already engaged in intercourse using the reconstructed penis, though full erotic feeling may take years. Lucas says the experience reshaped his identity and relationship, and he urges other men with the disease to stay hopeful.
