Man remanded for four days after defiling Tumpat mosque with foul liquid

A 38-year-old man was ordered to be remanded for four days while police investigate a desecration incident at Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat.

A magistrate in Pasir Mas ordered a four-day remand for a 38-year-old suspect linked to a mosque desecration in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat. The order, effective until Oct 20, was issued by Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi at the local magistrate's court. Police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie confirmed the suspect was taken into custody in Kota Baru the night before.

The incident, which occurred on the morning of Oct 5, involved the man breaking a glass door, entering Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi on a motorcycle, and spreading a greenish-brown liquid—thought to be a mix of animal faeces, fur, bone fragments and maggots—across the male prayer area and lecture table. Cleaning crews performed a full ritual purification (sertu) of the ground floor. Authorities are charging the case under Section 295 for defiling a place of worship and Section 427 for mischief.
