Man seized with AK-47 after pledging allegiance to ISIS in Minnesota

Federal agents in Minnesota arrested Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, who was found with an AK-47, magazines and ammunition after allegedly swearing loyalty to ISIS.

Federal prosecutors in St. Paul filed a petition accusing Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud of illegally acquiring a Norinco AK-47, four magazines and roughly 200 live rounds, knowing they would facilitate a felony and terrorism. The affidavit says Mohamud told an FBI confidential source he intended to attack U.S. targets and posted a video pledging allegiance to ISIS. Text messages from 2025 to 2026 reveal his escalating violent intent, including references to the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting.

On Oct. 6, he was apprehended at gunpoint by the FBI after exiting an undercover employee's car with the weapons. Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen and FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Dotson will hold a news conference to detail the “significant counterterrorism law enforcement action.”
