Man sentenced to 12 years after police uncover 3,000 child abuse images
Mark Edmonds, 61, received a 12-year prison term after pleading guilty to 15 sexual offences, with police finding more than 3,000 indecent child images on his devices.
Mark Edmonds, 61, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to fifteen sexual offences, including eight assaults and possession of Category A indecent images of children, the highest classification under UK law. The investigation began when a survivor reported that Edmonds had been touching and photographing her, leading to his February arrest and the seizure of his devices by Greater Manchester Police.
Over 3,000 indecent images were recovered, some depicting the two known victims. Detective Constable Hannah Young of the Child Protection Investigation Unit described the abuse as a “horrific misuse of trust.” During sentencing, the mother of one victim said, “You destroyed my life.
You destroyed my girls.” In addition to the prison term, Edmonds received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order. Authorities urged other victims to come forward, emphasizing ongoing support services such as Rape Crisis.
Why it matters
The case underscores the seriousness of child sexual exploitation and the law's capacity to impose long sentences and protective orders.
