Man sentenced to 12 years for setting 32 fires in Charente
A 32-year-old man was sentenced by the Charente criminal court to 12 years in prison for deliberately igniting 32 fires between July 2022 and October 2023 in the department’s southern area.
The court handed down a twelve-year term of criminal confinement to a 32-year-old father of two, who set 32 separate blazes across southern Charente from July 2022 through October 2023. Prosecutors had sought the same penalty, describing him as a “live bomb.” His lawyer said the sentence is inappropriate, but the defendant does not plan to appeal.
