Man sentenced to conditional prison for fatal building board collapse in Mäntsälä

A man in his early fifties received an eight-month conditional sentence after construction boards fell on children, killing a six-year-old and injuring a five-year-old in Mäntsälä.

The court found the 53-year-old man guilty of aggravated homicide and aggravated assault after he left heavy building boards on a cart near a hallway entrance, where they toppled onto a yard in October 2024. The collapse killed a six-year-old child and wounded a five-year-old sibling. The trial examined the responsibility of the younger child's other parent. The Eastern Uusimaa District Court described the man's conduct as extremely negligent.
