Man sentenced to four years for robbing and assaulting longtime friend

In a case heard by the Uijeongbu District Court, a man in his 60s was sentenced to four years in prison for robbery resulting in bodily injury. The defendant, who had been living without work, repeatedly broke into his longtime acquaintance’s house in Dongducheon using a key he had taken, stealing food. On the night of July 6, the victim arrived home, confronted the intruder, and was threatened with a knife before the defendant seized 150,000 won.

The assault left the victim needing two weeks of treatment. The court highlighted the breach of trust after 15 years of friendship and considered the modest amount stolen, the defendant’s financial hardship, and his remorse when determining the penalty.
