Man sentenced to ten months for role in 2025 Malieveld riots

Nearly a year after the violent protests on the Malieveld in Den Haag, a court handed down a sentence to a 25-year-old man who was homeless during the unrest. He was found guilty of open violence committed as part of a group and sentenced to ten months' imprisonment, with six months suspended. The riots began on 20 September 2025 following a demonstration opposing the country's asylum and migration policy, during which participants blocked the A12 highway, hurled stones, fireworks, batons and traffic signs, and set fire to a police vehicle.
The Public Prosecution Service has prosecuted 55 individuals linked to the events, resulting in 51 convictions that include prison terms, suspended sentences, community service, and mandatory compensation for damages. The latest verdict underscores the ongoing legal repercussions of the large-scale disturbance.
