Man Sets Himself Ablaze Inside Lobby of Manhattan Building Housing Google Offices
A 63-year-old individual set himself on fire in the lobby of a Lower Manhattan building that hosts Google offices, and was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
The self-immolation occurred just before 3 p.m. on Hudson Street near Vandam Street, prompting multiple 911 calls. Police and fire crews rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, reporting his condition as stable. Only a black backpack and some debris were left at the scene. The building also houses the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, but authorities have not yet determined what material was used or the motive behind the act.
