Man shot while rescuing friend during Seattle street robbery, bystanders filmed him
Matthew Lanske was wounded repeatedly while trying to protect his friend Isaac Elijah Rios during an armed robbery in Seattle, and nearby witnesses filmed him instead of offering aid.
During a street takeover in Seattle's Belltown district on Sept. 6, a man and woman brandished a firearm and robbed Isaac Elijah Rios, 20, fatally wounding him. Matthew Lanske, 21, intervened and was hit three times—in the stomach and pelvis—suffering severe injuries that damaged a major artery. He pursued the assailant into a nearby convenience store, where employees barred entry and filmed him as he bled.
Lanske survived after emergency surgery, while Rios was pronounced dead at the scene. Their families have called for accountability, and Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound is offering a $1,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest.
