Man stabbed on Queens subway after confronting teens harassing senior
A hotel chef was stabbed in the abdomen while trying to intervene when three youths were bullying an elderly man on a Queens subway platform.
While returning home early Thursday, Aaron Rodriguez noticed three men harassing an elderly rider on the southbound No. 7 platform at the 82nd Street-Jackson Heights station in Queens. He confronted them, ordering them to leave the senior alone, which led the trio to engage him physically and stab him twice in the abdomen with an unidentified sharp object. Rodriguez felt the wounds only after the attackers fled and called emergency services, being transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center for observation and possible surgery.
He remains optimistic about recovery and says the incident will not deter him from speaking out against misconduct on the subway. The NYPD issued images of the suspects later that day and urged anyone with information to contact its Crime Stoppers Hotline. The case remains under investigation.
