Man Stabs MTA Cleaner After Being Caught Urinating on Times Square Subway Platform
A commuter attacked an MTA cleaning employee on the Times Square platform after the worker reprimanded him for urinating, leaving the employee with a serious arm wound.
At roughly 10:30 p.m. on Monday, a passenger was observed relieving himself on the busy Times Square subway platform. A 30-year-old MTA cleaning staff member, employed since July 2023, warned the individual, prompting the commuter to erupt in anger, engage in a physical altercation, and stab the worker’s left arm, inflicting a deep cut. The injured employee was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition and later discharged.
Surveillance footage shows the attacker—a bearded, bespectacled man carrying a backpack—boarding a southbound No. 1 train. He has not been captured as of Thursday, and authorities are urging anyone with information to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline. MTA executive vice president of subways Bill Amarosa Jr. condemned the assault and called for the maximum penalties once the suspect is apprehended.
