Man suspected of axe attack on three victims flees Tyers, police launch search
Police say a man armed with an axe attacked three people, including an elderly man and woman, in Tyers and then escaped.
Victoria Police reported that a man, believed to be in his 50s and known to the victims, attacked three individuals at a home on Cowies Road in Tyers at about 12:30 pm. The victims included an elderly male, an elderly female, and another adult male, all of whom suffered critical injuries; the two elderly victims were airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne. The assailant fled the property carrying an axe and possibly a handsaw, and was last observed wearing a black-and-mustard coloured jacket and a black backpack.
A wide-scale search operation is under way, with police urging anyone who sees the suspect to avoid contact and call Triple Zero. Information can also be relayed to Crime Stoppers. The investigation remains ongoing.
