Man with mental disability kills brother after repeated money requests in Terengganu

A 42-year-old man with a mental health condition fatally beat his 43-year-old brother in Kampung Banggol Tasik after the sibling repeatedly asked relatives for money.

In the early hours of yesterday, a 42-year-old man diagnosed with a mental disability assaulted his 43-year-old brother in Kampung Banggol Tasik, Bukit Payung, after the older sibling repeatedly solicited money from family members. Police investigations revealed the victim had a history of drug-related offences and was known for asking relatives for cash, which may have fueled the attacker’s anger. The assault resulted in fatal blunt-force injuries to the brother, while their 36-year-old sister sustained head and hand injuries while trying to stop the attack and is now receiving care at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

The suspect, who had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues at the same hospital, was apprehended by police on the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payung, Marang. Authorities have charged him with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, a crime punishable by death or 30-40 years in prison with possible caning. The motive remains under investigation.
