Man with prior convictions charged after punching 61-year-old in Little Havana

In Miami’s Little Havana district, a 61-year-old woman was unexpectedly assaulted on Southwest 8th Street, as recorded by cameras at Calle Ocho Sports Bar and Grill. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Tavaris Greene, has a lengthy criminal record that includes prior theft and burglary convictions. Video shows Greene walking up to the victim, punching her hard enough to send her to the pavement, after which he ran away.

Local patrons called 911, assisted the injured woman with a chair and water, and waited for police. Authorities arrested Greene and filed a felony battery charge; his arrest report notes he said he was “having a bad day because he punched someone” and later smoked synthetic marijuana. The victim sustained a broken nose and facial lacerations requiring stitches.
