Manchester Airport Group disclosed a cybersecurity incident that allowed an external actor to retrieve data belonging to about 8.7 million individuals who used its facilities. The breach involved information gathered from Wi-Fi registrations and service bookings at Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, covering email addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes. Neither passenger safety nor aviation security was affected, and no payment or bank details were taken.
Airport activities remained fully operational, with parking and other services running as normal. The group has engaged specialist advisers, informed relevant authorities and issued warnings to customers to beware of unsolicited communications claiming to be from the airports. An apology was offered for any inconvenience caused.
