Manchester court hears trial of Stockport man and 12 others accused of drugging and raping wife

A Stockport resident in his 60s is standing trial in Manchester alongside twelve other men accused of drugging and raping his wife while she was unconscious. Prosecutors say the defendant faces 48 counts, ranging from rape and sexual assault to sharing intimate images, and he has admitted guilt to 15 of those charges while denying the rest. The co-defendants, whose ages span from 28 to 73, are alleged to have either directly abused the victim or helped administer the incapacitating substance.
The victim’s identity remains anonymous under UK law. The trial follows earlier police statements in June and involves officials from Greater Manchester police and the Crown Prosecution Service. The case has been compared to a high-profile French mass-rape trial involving Dominique Pelicot.
