Manchester United in early talks with West Brom over midfielder Toby Collyer

Manchester United have entered preliminary discussions with West Bromwich Albion about a possible transfer of midfielder Toby Collyer.

Manchester United have been contacted by West Bromwich Albion regarding a potential transfer of midfielder Toby Collyer, with negotiations reported as being in the early phases. Collyer, 22, is lauded for his tremendous work ethic and spent the first half of the 2025/26 season on loan at West Brom, featuring in 12 Championship games, three as a starter, before a serious calf problem forced his return to Old Trafford. After recovering, he joined Hull City for the remainder of the campaign, playing five matches before twisting an ankle in training.

United’s activity this window has been limited to the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while key midfield options such as Casemiro are unavailable and others like Manuel Ugarte are sidelined, prompting the club to consider moving Collyer despite limited depth. The possible sale could free up resources as the team prepares for Champions League fixtures. Laurie Whitwell of one outlet reported the early-stage talks, and other midfield targets including Myles Lewis-Skelly and Jorge Salinas remain on United’s radar.

Why it matters

United's thin midfield roster makes any potential departure of a squad player relevant for upcoming competitions.
