Manchester United near £60m deal for Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba
Manchester United is close to finalising a transfer for Brighton's Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba, with a fee expected to exceed £60 million.
Manchester United is on the brink of securing a transfer for Brighton's 22-year-old Cameroon international Carlos Baleba, with a deal valued at more than £60 million. The club already has a five-year contract ready for him, awaiting formal approval of the inter-club terms. Although the precise fee and payment schedule have not been fully settled, the figure is expected to surpass the £60 million mark.
Baleba is preparing to fly to Manchester, where a medical examination will be arranged promptly after the agreement is confirmed. He is currently rehabbing an ankle ligament injury suffered during pre-season, which is not anticipated to keep him sidelined for long. The move would add him as the third midfield reinforcement this window, joining Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has made 112 appearances for the Seagulls.
Why it matters
United's acquisition of a high-priced midfielder strengthens their squad and reflects the club's spending strategy.
