Manhunt launched for suspect who fatally shot Warm Springs officer after prior arrest

A Blue Alert has been activated in Georgia after 23-year-old Jimmie Lee Steverson allegedly shot and killed Warm Springs Police Staff Sergeant Chris Fisher outside the Meriwether Country Inn. Fisher, a father of two who had joined the department only three months earlier, had arrested Steverson the prior Friday on multiple weapon and drug offenses. Councilman Michael Bishop told one outlet media the murder appears to be a retaliatory act.

The GBI describes Steverson as 5 ft 6 in, 150 lb, with black dreadlocks and brown eyes, wearing a black T-shirt and gym shorts, and driving a black 2026 Chevrolet Silverado. Authorities stress he remains armed and dangerous and ask the public to report sightings via 911, the GBI tip line, its website, or the See Something, Send Something app. Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences and called for prayers for Fisher’s family and fellow officers.
