Manipur Home Minister says search ops continue after three Meitei youths killed
Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam announced ongoing search operations to apprehend those responsible for the killing of three Meitei youths in the Sunurok hills.
Govindas Konthoujam, Manipur's Home Minister, reported that search operations are underway to capture all persons involved in the recent killing of three Meitei youths in the Sunurok hills of Kangpokpi district. Security forces have already arrested three individuals, one of whom is suspected to belong to the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KNF). A coordinated raid by Cobra, the Central Reserve Police Force and local police hit a Sinai camp housing 18 people associated with groups that have agreed to a suspension of operations, including a confirmed Kuki outfit member.
The minister said further searches will extend to camps of Meitei and Naga militant outfits. He noted the difficulty of operating in the hill areas and affirmed that impartial steps will be taken to maintain law and order and restore normalcy in the region, which has seen ongoing ethnic conflict since May 2023.
Why it matters
The arrests and raids aim to curb ethnic violence in Manipur and restore stability to a conflict-prone region.
