Many households may be overpaying up to £452 on broadband each year
Consumers are warned that staying on the same broadband contract beyond two years can add hundreds of pounds to annual costs.
A study highlighted by Broadband Genie reveals that most households keep the same broadband provider for over three years, despite many introductory deals lasting only two years. After the promotional period, prices often increase, and customers who do not review their contracts may be paying as much as £452 extra annually. Alex Tofts, a broadband specialist, recommends reviewing the contract if it hasn't been renegotiated in the past two years.
Consumers should compare total costs, not just headline prices, and consider whether a faster package is necessary. Switching is simplified by the One Touch Switch system, which handles the transition. Additionally, those receiving Universal Credit or similar benefits might qualify for reduced social tariffs.
Why it matters
Overlooking contract renewals can silently raise household expenses by hundreds of pounds each year.
