MARA to Deploy Former Military Wardens Across All MRSM Campuses by 2027

MARA will expand its trial of hiring former military staff as wardens to every MRSM campus across the country, with the program slated to begin on Jan 1 2027. The decision follows a UPM-conducted nine-month evaluation at two campuses that recorded zero bullying incidents and reported gains in student punctuality, manners, and a sense of security. Earlier this year, eight campuses received ex-military wardens as a preliminary step before the full rollout.

Chairperson Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki highlighted the study’s results and requested UPM to develop a training curriculum while launching a comprehensive review of psychological bullying. The policy shift occurs as authorities investigate the murder of a 14-year-old student in a Kuala Pilah hostel, a case that has raised concerns about school safety. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek noted that many of the proposed anti-bullying measures are already in place.
