MARA to finish hospital feasibility study within three months

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said a special committee will complete the feasibility study for a proposed MARA Hospital in three months, after which approval work can start.

A dedicated committee of experts and alumni has been set up by MARA to assess the viability of a new MARA Hospital, with the feasibility report expected in three months. Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said the analysis will cover healthcare needs, site selection, capacity, service scope, staffing, cost estimates, financing options and legal requirements. She noted the proposal aligns with MARA's 60th anniversary and its long-standing role in medical education.

The envisioned facility would serve as a combined treatment centre, clinical training site, specialist development hub, research centre and platform for Bumiputera health-sector entrepreneurship. Performance metrics would go beyond patient numbers to include graduate placement, specialist growth, vendor participation and community benefits. The study will also weigh MARA's objectives of boosting Bumiputera participation, ownership and control before any final decision is taken.

Why it matters

The project could reshape Malaysia's healthcare landscape and create new opportunities for Bumiputera professionals and businesses.
