Maradona relatives clash over desired prison terms for his doctors
Maradona's daughters and sisters have presented opposing sentencing requests for the seven medical staff on trial for his 2020 death.
In the San Isidro court, where Diego Maradona died in 2020, his family members have submitted divergent sentencing proposals for the seven health professionals charged with inadequate care. Daughters Dalma and Gianinna, via attorney Fernando Burlando, labeled the doctors' actions as "murder" and sought up to 15 years imprisonment for six of the accused. Their three sisters, represented by Pablo Jurado, proposed maximum terms of 10 years for five defendants, emphasizing a severe penalty for medical coordinator Nancy Forlini.
Additionally, the lawyer for Maradona's 13-year-old son requested 16-year sentences for the personal physician Leopoldo Luque and Forlini. State prosecutors have already called for guilty verdicts on six defendants, recommending prison terms between four and 12 years, with Luque slated for the toughest sentence. Closing arguments will continue through the end of October, after which the court will issue its judgment.
