Marcos seeks expanded AI and tech cooperation with Singapore before 2028 exit
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Philippines aims to forge new technology partnerships with Singapore, especially in artificial intelligence, before he leaves office in 2028.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. used his October 7-11 working visit to Singapore to underline the Philippines’ desire for deeper collaboration in technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence. He praised Singapore as the regional frontrunner in AI and digitalisation, and said the two nations should have formal partnerships in place before his 2028 departure. One outlet visit follows a July trip that secured Singaporean interest in digital infrastructure, AI, healthcare and related fields.
Marcos pointed out that Singapore already ranks among the largest investors in the Philippines and is now looking to expand into sectors such as the digital economy and health services, which have historically seen limited Singaporean involvement. He described the development as mutually beneficial and a significant step for both economies.
Why it matters
