Mari to Purchase ATG Entertainment in $6 Billion Deal Expanding Theater Holdings
Mari has agreed to buy ATG Entertainment from Providence Equity in a transaction valued at roughly $6 billion, widening its presence in Broadway and West End theatres.
Mari, the live-events firm founded by Ari Emanuel, has signed an agreement to acquire ATG Entertainment from private-equity firm Providence Equity in a transaction reported to be about $6 billion. The purchase, pending antitrust approval, will retain ATG’s brand, management team and its pledge to creative independence. ATG, which operates seven Broadway houses—including the Lyric Theatre—and ten West End venues such as the Lyceum and the Savoy, is the third-largest theater owner after the Shubert and Nederlander groups.
The acquisition builds on Mari’s recent purchase of ticketing service TodayTix and its existing holdings that span the Miami Open, Madrid Open, Frieze art fairs and Barrett Jackson auctions. Emanuel, also chief executive of TKO and executive chairman of WME Group, described the deal as a long-term bet on the future of live entertainment. Producer Sonia Friedman praised the investment, saying it will help ensure industry sustainability and support bold new work.
Why it matters
The purchase reshapes the global theater market, giving a single live-events company significant influence over major Broadway and West End venues.
