María Corina Machado Announces Immediate Return to Venezuela Amid US Praise and Legal Controversy
Opposition leader María Corina Machado said she will fly back to Venezuela within hours, a move echoed by her party’s coordinator and preceded by a supportive comment from former US President Donald Trump.
María Corina Machado used her X account to declare that she will return to Venezuela within the next few hours to stand with citizens, bolster popular organization, and aid a democratic transition. Her party’s coordination chief, Henry Alviárez, confirmed to NTN24 that both diplomatic channels and legal procedures are being aligned to facilitate her entry through airports like Maiquetía and Valencia, where crowds are expected.
The timing follows a public endorsement from former US President Donald Trump, who described Machado as an “excellent woman” and assured that everything will go well. In a separate development, former Supreme Court judge Bárbara César Siero released a video and letter alleging that she was pressured in 2023 to sign multiple political disqualification rulings, including the one that barred Machado from running in the 2024 election.
Siero also reported that her brothers and sister-in-law were arbitrarily detained the same day, allegedly to coerce her compliance. These statements highlight both the political momentum behind Machado’s return and lingering concerns over judicial independence in Venezuela.
Why it matters
Machado’s imminent return could reshape Venezuela’s opposition dynamics and signal renewed US engagement.
