Mariners pull starter Bryan Woo after six innings due to shoulder soreness

Seattle manager Dan Wilson removed right-hander Bryan Woo after six innings because of a sore shoulder, despite a solid 2-run performance.

Seattle’s recent series win against division rival Houston featured a notable pitching decision when Dan Wilson pulled starter Bryan Woo after six innings. Woo delivered a two-run effort on a low pitch count, but was taken out because of a “little bit of shoulder soreness,” according to a local sports reporter. The Mariners’ relievers kept the opposition scoreless for the final three innings, preserving a 3-2 victory.

Woo, who is 26, has a 9-8 record and a 4.10 ERA across 24 starts this season, and has shown improvement in his last three outings. The injury’s severity remains unclear, and his next start against the Chicago Cubs may be delayed. Seattle will travel to Milwaukee for a series before returning home, with prospects still developing in Double-A.

Why it matters

Woo’s health could affect Seattle’s pitching depth as the team battles for a playoff spot.
