Marius Borg Høiby replaces his defense team ahead of appeal hearing

Marius Borg Høiby dismissed his lawyers Petar Sekulic and Ellen Holager Andenæs and appointed new counsel before his appeal scheduled for February.

Marius Borg Høiby, serving a four-year sentence for two rapes and related offenses, announced a change of counsel just weeks before his appeal at the Borgarting lagmannsrett in February. He called Petar Sekulic, who then relayed the decision to co-counsel Ellen Holager Andenæs. Both lawyers described the move as unanticipated yet devoid of drama, emphasizing that Høiby sought a new perspective on his case. The newly appointed attorneys, Alexander Greaker and Daniel Storrvik, will take over the defense at the upcoming appellate hearing.

Høiby’s legal representation has shifted three times: initially Øyvind Bratlien, then Sekulic and Andenæs from 2024, and now Greaker and Storrvik. The Oslo district court convicted him of two rapes, domestic violence against ex-girlfriend Nora Haukland, and other violations, while acquitting him of two additional rape charges.

Why it matters

The lawyer swap could affect the strategy and outcome of Høiby's appeal in a high-profile criminal case.
