Martial arts instructor and dog walker pinned assailant during San Francisco beach fight
A physical altercation broke out at Crissy Field when James Hidalgo, a martial arts teacher, restrained a man who had approached him while he was walking his dog.
On a Tuesday at Crissy Field, a beach near San Francisco, a dispute escalated into a brawl after a man loudly confronted James Hidalgo, who was walking his dog Argis. Hidalgo reported that the stranger accused him of calling him a dog and then tried to strike him, leading Hidalgo to subdue the individual by pinning him in the sand. Bystanders called emergency services, and United States Park Police responded, handcuffing both men and questioning them on site.
After medical personnel examined Hidalgo, he was released, whereas the other participant remained in police custody. Hidalgo, a former United States Marine and martial arts instructor, said he will pursue legal action and expressed relief that the encounter involved someone capable of defending himself.
