Martin Herlihy exits Saturday Night Live after five-season run
Martin Herlihy, a member of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy and son of former SNL writer Tim Herlihy, is leaving Saturday Night Live after five seasons.
Martin Herlihy, part of the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy and the son of longtime SNL writer Tim Herlihy, has decided to exit the Saturday Night Live cast after five seasons, according to an insider. Please Don’t Destroy, formed at NYU in 2017, took over the Digital Shorts slot after The Lonely Island departed and even released a feature film in 2023.
Ben Marshall, the third member, was elevated to the main cast last year, leaving the group to continue as a trio. Herlihy’s departure comes shortly after Chloe Fineman’s high-profile exit in July, and Season 52 of SNL is set to premiere on Sept. 26 with the host and musical guest still to be announced.
Why it matters
Herlihy's exit marks another shift in SNL's cast lineup and highlights the evolving role of the Please Don’t Destroy trio.
