Marvel's Endgame Re-Release Set to Challenge Weekend Box Office Leaders
Disney will re-issue Avengers: Endgame this weekend, with projected North American earnings of $25-$28 million, putting it in direct competition with Resident Evil’s second-weekend haul.
Disney is bringing back the 2019 Marvel hit Avengers: Endgame as an encore presentation, and analysts predict a domestic weekend gross of $25 million to $28 million, enough to challenge Resident Evil’s $24 million-$26 million second-weekend earnings. Resident Evil led the previous weekend with a $61 million opening, marking the franchise’s strongest debut. Meanwhile, three fresh titles are expected to compete for the third position: Brad Pitt’s survival drama The Heart of the Beast, Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s family adventure Forgotten Island, and A24’s crime-drama Primetime starring Robert Pattinson, each projected to earn between $15 million and $20 million.
Primetime benefits from a modest $15 million budget and strong festival buzz, while The Heart of the Beast faces pressure to recoup its $82 million production cost. Forgotten Island targets a gap in family-focused releases, the last major kid-oriented film being Moana. The performance of Endgame Encore will also serve as an early barometer of audience appetite ahead of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday release scheduled for December.
