Masdar signs deal to acquire major Greek solar park and expand Southeast Europe footprint

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar agreed to buy a large photovoltaic project in Greece, marking its first strategic investment through Terna Energy.

Masdar has signed an agreement to acquire a 550 MW-plus photovoltaic installation in Greece from Lightsource bp, the first strategic investment made through its subsidiary Terna Energy. The deal, slated for finalisation by the end of 2026 subject to regulatory clearance, will broaden Masdar’s presence in Southeast Europe and complement its existing assets. The company plans to install battery storage at the site to enhance grid stability and enable greater renewable penetration.

In parallel, Masdar and Khazna Data Centers entered a cooperation to develop green data-center solutions, combining Khazna’s data-center expertise with Masdar’s renewable and storage know-how. Both initiatives aim to support Greece’s ambition to become a regional digital hub and to deepen energy cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Greece.

Why it matters

The deal boosts Greece’s renewable capacity and strengthens UAE-Greece energy ties, supporting regional digital growth.
