Mass funeral held for 75 Palestinians whose remains were uncovered in Gaza rubble
A funeral for 75 Palestinians whose bodies were recovered from destroyed homes in Gaza was conducted on Sunday, with hundreds attending the burial at Sheikh Radwan Cemetery.
On Sunday morning, a mass funeral took place for 75 Palestinians whose remains were retrieved from the ruins of homes in Gaza’s Darij neighbourhood. The Ministry of Health announced the burial at Sheikh Radwan Cemetery, where the bodies—largely women and children—were wrapped in Palestinian flags before interment. Hundreds of mourners joined the procession, reflecting the deep grief in the community.
Abdullah al-Majdalawi of Gaza’s Civil Defence explained that the victims belonged to around 20 families and were recovered over recent weeks from houses bombed early in the conflict. The Civil Defence, which began a second phase of recovery in July, previously recovered 333 bodies and 559 remains in November 2025 and believes about 8,000 more may still be buried under the rubble. With roughly 200,000 structures damaged, the UNRWA estimates the humanitarian toll continues to rise, having recorded at least 74,475 Palestinian deaths since the war began in October 2023.
Why it matters
The funeral highlights the ongoing human toll and challenges of body recovery in Gaza’s war-torn landscape.
