Mass rally in Tehran features anti-US, anti-Israel chants and calls for war readiness

A huge crowd assembled in Tehran for a military parade, brandishing weapons and shouting slogans against the United States and Israel.

Hundreds of thousands gathered in Tehran for a large-scale military parade, with women in burkas and men in uniform marching while carrying weapons. Demonstrators stepped on American and Israeli flags and shouted slogans such as “death over America” and “death over Israel,” while banners displayed images of Donald Trump being attacked. The government displayed air-defence systems and drones as part of the showcase.

Authorities called on the public to sign up for voluntary weapons training, which will supplement the Revolutionary Guard and its Basij paramilitary force. A 24-year-old participant, Marzieh Afaghi, told the crowd that Iranians do not fear external threats. The rally is the biggest of its kind since the start of the U.S. and Israeli attacks earlier this year.

Why it matters

The rally signals heightened anti-Western sentiment in Iran and a push to expand its militia forces.
